Sunday, May 21 Nanaimo to Pender Harbour 36 miles 3 ¾ hours

Crossing the Strait of Georgia can be very daunting.  It is a very wide open channel.  Right in the middle of the course from Nanaimo to Pender Island (on the mainland) is military deep water range to test torpedoes.   It is usually not active on the week-end so we had a straight route all the way to Pender.  The wind was 3-10 kts and the water was flat.  Wow!  What a treat.  We anchored off of Madeira Park.  We took the dinghy in for a latte and bought one pond of fresh live prawns from a fisherman on the dock.  Yum!
They also have a lot of original art and sculptures around town.
